Create Your TRIBE: The Recruiting Insight Framework

What recruiting really is

Recruiting is an act of leadership. It is the process of finding people who are afraid, stuck, or invisible, and offering them a tribe (an office, a brokerage, a company) where they feel they belong, are recognized for what makes them unique, and grow into the agent and community leader they want to become.

TRIBE is the Recruiting Insight framework for doing that every day. It has one foundation and four practices. This page is the full framework.

Our belief

The brokerage model is not the differentiator. Execution is. In our work with brokerages, we see the same model in the same market produce a threefold spread in results. The leaders who win are not the ones with the best split. They are the ones who master the internal game first, because without it, the external game will always underperform.

The foundation: the internal game

T: Think

Think is the operating system that runs R, I, B and E. Results start with how you think about your circumstances, not the circumstances themselves. A positive mindset is passive; bridge thoughts are active. Name the limiting belief, replace it with a bridge thought you can believe today, and act on what you learn within 48 hours.

The external game

Every external action runs in two directions: winning the right talent, and protecting the talent you already have.

R: Research

Know who you are, who to call and who you could lose. Be clear on your niche, your value and your success stories, then use the data to find the agents who are ready to move. Watch your own roster the same way: production bending down or a dropping listing ratio is an early sign an agent is looking. Targeting beats volume.

To pick the right agents before you sponsor them, see How to Select the Right Real Estate Agents Before You Sponsor Them. To understand why agents move, and what to listen for, see The 8 D’s of Agent Movement.

I: Influence

Warmth before competence, with candidates and with your own agents. Candidates first ask, “Can I trust you?” Lead with their story, listen 70% of the time, and ask questions that let them reach their own decision. Hold Stay Interviews with your agents twice a year so you hear their concerns before a competitor does.

The warmth-before-competence idea comes from research summarized by Amy Cuddy, Matthew Kohut and John Neffinger in “Connect, Then Lead” (Harvard Business Review, July–August 2013), which builds on Susan Fiske’s work on how people judge warmth and competence.

B: Block

Block thirty minutes every day for the fundamentals: touches, conversations and appointments, tracked weekly, plus check-ins with new recruits at days 30, 60 and 90 and regular time with your top producers. Protect the time like a listing appointment. Leading indicators today become hires and retained agents next quarter.

Why daily beats occasional: Action Produces Data. Theory Produces Opinions.

E: Embrace

Agents join for logic and stay for belonging. Recognize each agent for more than volume, give every agent a personal growth plan, and invite them into a real role in the culture. Retention is the new recruiting.

How to put TRIBE to work

In your own week. Start with T. Write down the belief that is holding your recruiting back and the bridge thought you will act on instead. Then block your thirty minutes and protect them.

In your sales meeting. Teach one letter a week for five weeks. Ask your managers how they would score themselves on each one, and where the office is strongest and weakest.

In coaching. TRIBE is the framework behind Recruiting Insight’s coaching, including 90 Days to Recruiting Success. See how the coaching works.
