Building High Performance: A Framework for Success

High performance requires more than just hard work; it demands a strategic process built on a strong foundation of mindset. Inspired by John Foley’s Glad to Be Here, the Blue Angels pilot’s book on high performance, here’s a simple framework:

  1. Mindset: Cultivate a positive, growth-oriented mindset focused on gratitude, presence, and resilience. This is the bedrock of high performance.
  2. Intentional Leadership (for teams): Foster trust, open communication, and a commitment to excellence within your team.
  3. Alignment: Ensure everyone is working towards the same goals and understands their role in achieving them.
  4. Commitment: Cultivate ownership and a bias for action, driving consistent progress.

By implementing this framework, you can create a culture of high performance and achieve sustainable results. And that is how you win the day!

The Blue Angels Standard

Foley flew with the Blue Angels, where jets fly 18 inches apart. That only works with total trust, preparation and an honest debrief after every flight. I wrote more about that habit in The Power of the Post-Mission Debrief.

Putting It to Work This Week

  • Mindset: start your sales meeting with one thing each person is grateful for.
  • Alignment: ask each agent to name the office’s top goal. If the answers differ, that’s your work.
  • Commitment: end every meeting with who does what, by when.
