Doing the right thing is always the right thing.

Doing The Right Thing

One of my lawyer friends quoted Carl Sandburg today:

“If the facts are against you, argue the law. If the law is against you, argue the facts. If the law and the facts are against you, pound the table and yell like hell.”

My take? Doing the right thing is always the right thing and good business. “Make it right” and “Honor your commitments” is one of the best mantras ever.

Why It’s Good Business

In real estate, your reputation travels faster than your marketing. Clients refer the agent who told them the truth about price. Agents stay with the broker who kept a promise when it would have been easier not to. Recruits remember how you treated the agent who left.

What “Make It Right” Looks Like

  • A transaction goes sideways because of your mistake. Own it and fix it before the client asks.
  • You promised an agent support you can’t deliver. Tell them now, and offer what you can.
  • A deal could close faster if you shaded a disclosure. Don’t.

Commitments are small promises with big consequences: the call you said you’d return, the meeting you said you’d attend. Keep the small ones and people trust you with the big ones.

Thoughts?

Doing the right thing is always the right thing.
Doing the right thing is always the right thing.
