Trust Is Your Brand

Trust Is Your Brand

Your revenue runs at the speed of trust.

Think about it: as trust goes up, speed increases and cost goes down. A client who trusts you returns calls, follows advice and refers friends. An agent who trusts their broker stays through a tough market. A lender or escrow partner who trusts you makes the transaction smoother. When trust is low, everything slows down and gets more expensive: more questions, more second-guessing, more deals that fall apart.

Stephen Covey made this case in The Speed of Trust, and it has only become more true. Clients come in more skeptical than they used to, and agents are quicker to question their brokerage. Trust is no longer assumed. It has to be earned and re-earned.

Seven ways to build more trust

  • Talk straight. Say what you mean. Give the real price opinion, the real timeline, the real feedback, kindly but clearly.
  • Create transparency. Show your numbers, your process and your reasoning. People trust what they can see.
  • Deliver results. Good intentions build hope. Results build trust.
  • Confront reality head-on. Bring up the hard issue before the client or agent has to. Silence reads as hiding something.
  • Clarify expectations. Most broken trust starts as a misunderstanding. Spell out who does what and by when.
  • Practice more accountability. Own the miss quickly, without excuses, and fix it.
  • Keep your commitments. Every promise kept, even a small one like calling back when you said you would, is a deposit. Every one broken is a withdrawal.

Trust is your brand

Logos, slogans and marketing get attention. Trust is what people actually remember. When a past client describes you to a friend, they aren’t describing your brokerage’s colors. They’re describing whether you told the truth, did what you said and had their back.

For leaders, the same is true inside the office. Your culture is the sum of the promises you keep to your agents. Read more about that in Trust. The Speed of Trust. and Operating at the Speed of Trust.

This week

Pick one of the seven behaviors above and practice it on purpose with every client, agent and partner you talk to. Trust is your brand.

That’s how we win the day, the month, and the rest of the year.
